The University of of New Orleans Foundation
Mission
History
The University of New Orleans Foundation was founded in 1984 as the University of New Orleans Fund. Local businessmen and civic leaders who were interested in supporting and improving the University of New Orleans incorporated the "UNO Fund". In 1988 the name of the organization was changed to the University of New Orleans Foundation to better reflect its relationship to the University. The UNO Foundation is a support organization whose sole purpose is the betterment of the University of New Orleans. Over the years the Foundation has provided UNO with the know-how of many of this city's most respected leaders through its Board of Directors. The UNO Foundation also provides the University with the economic support it has needed to evolve into a respected educational institution through its development efforts.
The Foundation's role as a support organization extends to overseeing the evolvement of University undertakings that are developed in conjunction with private interest. These "Foundation projects" have included the Roger Ogden Museum of Southern Art and most recently the University of New Orleans Studio Center. Through these projects the Foundation allows the University to expand its mission and vastly improve the opportunity's of its students.
The University of New Orleans Foundation is one of the few educational support organizations that also provide support for organizations affiliated with the University. The University of New Orleans Foundation provides this service for University related projects, such as the National D-Day Museum and the New Orleans School Leadership Center. This support allows those not for profit organizations to save on administrative cost while they work to develop the greatest mutual mission enhancing relationship that they can have with the University of New Orleans.
